Huntley Board Considers Agreement With Energy Consultants

The Huntley Village Board will vote Thursday on a resolution authorizing an agreement with an energy consultant company.

Huntley leaders are expected to take the next step toward adopting an electrical aggregation program.

The Village Board, which meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Huntley Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St., will vote on a resolution authorizing an agreement with Independent Energy Consultants for energy consulting services.

In November, the Huntley Village Board passed a resolution seeking voter approval to pursue an opt-out electrical aggregation program. The resolution will appear on the ballot for the March 20, 2012, primary election.

If approved, the village would contract with energy suppliers to secure lower electricity rates for Huntley residents and small businesses. Independent Energy Consultants would work on behalf of Huntley in negotiating with electrical suppliers, should the Village Board approve the agreement.

Several surrounding communities including Algonquin, Barrington Hills, Genoa, Lakewood, Lake in the Hills, Marengo, McCullom Lake, McHenry, Prairie Grove, Spring Grove, Woodstock and McHenry County have expressed an interest in going through the electricity aggregation process on behalf of their residents.

The county is working to form an intergovernmental agreement between the local communities to pursue a lower electricity rate as a group.

The McHenry County Board could vote on the intergovernmental agreement as soon as Feb. 21, Huntley Village Manager Dave Johnson told trustees at last week’s committee of the whole meeting.
