Police Identify Man Killed After Parolee Flees Cops, Crashes Into Victim's Vehicle

A 35-year-old man who was killed after an Elgin parolee fled police during a traffic stop Tuesday and collided with the victim's vehicle has been identified as Miguel A. Tellez, 35, of the 1800 block of Endicott Circle in Carpentersville, according to the Daily Herald. 

Meanwhile, charges could be filed Thursday against Steven Luellen, 34, who is accused of causing the crash that killed Tellez and critically injured a passenger in his 2011 Nissan Maxima, Josette Jarvis, 35, of Elgin, according to the article. 

The Daily Herald reports Luellen was on parole for an aggravated fleeing and eluding police conviction and since 2003, he has been to jail at least eight times.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A man fled from police Tuesday evening, speeding down Elgin streets and running stop signs and traffic lights before causing a crash authorities said killed a man and critically injured a 35-year-old woman, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

Around 5 p.m., Elgin police pulled over the man, who was wanted on a state parole violation for a previous evading arrest conviction, the Chicago Tribune reports.  

Stephen Luellen sped away from police, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Liberty Street and broadsided the vehicle, which rolled into an Elgin home, according to CBS Chicago. 

Police said they were not chasing the fugitive when the crash occurred, according to ABC7 Chicago. 

The identity of the 40-year-old man killed in the crash is not being released at this time pending notification of his family, according to the Daily Herald. 

A female passenger in Luellen's car was taken to Sherman Hospital in critical condition while Luellen was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Daily Herald.
