Huntley families can join an effort by Hough Street School in Barrington to collecting cards and letters for Dominic Szymanski, the 11-year-old boy struck by a Metra train on Friday. Szymanski is currently in stable condition after the ordeal. A passing train apparently obscured the view of the oncoming train which hit a Barrington fifth-grader, Friday night, according to District 220 Chief Communications Officer Jeff Arnett. "From what I understand from the police, is that he was at Route 59 and Lake-Cook Road, waiting for a passing train. The passing train obscured the view of another train. Cary resident Jill Turskey, 35, was struck and killed shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday on the railroad tracks just northwest of the Cary Metra station, authorities said.

UPDATED SUNDAY, NOV. 4: The McHenry County Coroner's office said Jill Turskey, 35, of Cary was the person struck and killed by a Metra train on Saturday evening. Turskey was struck by an outbound Metra train at about 6:50 p.m. on the tracks northwest of the Cary train station, across from Feinburg Court. Investigators on Sunday were trying to determine how the collision occurred. Kim Bostic, deputy coroner for the county, said the investigation is on-going. Turskey was a 1995 graduate of Cary-Grove High School, according to her Facebook page.
