Defenders Host Recycling Drive on Saturday in Woodstock

Recycling drive accepts fluorescent tubes, electronics, Styrofoam and more

  WOODSTOCK -The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will conduct a recycling collection from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Farm Bureau parking lot, 1102 McConnell Rd., Woodstock. The Defenders organization continues to collect certain items not typically accepted by municipal curbside garbage removal services. The group also collects items harmful to the environment if disposited in a landfill, according to a Defenders press release. Items accepted at this Saturday's recycling drive include flourescent tubes, Styrofoam, and electronics. The Defenders accept household batteries, car batteries, lithium and button batteries, VHS and cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, packing peanuts and re-usable, unpopped bubble wrap. A donation is …

'Green Drinks McHenry County' to Meet at Duke's Alehouse

'Green Drinks' group gets together the first Wednesday of each month to talk about greening the future.

  The first Wednesday of each month in McHenry County has been dubbed "Green Wednesday" by the Green Drinks McHenry County group. This Wednesday, Oct. 3, the Green Drinks clan will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. upstairs at Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen, 110 N. Main St., Crystal Lake. Additional parking is available at the Metra train station. The public is invited to come talk about greening the future. This month, Dave Brandt and Dan Volkers will discuss the progress and initial findings of the McHenry County Local Food Assessment, according to a press release by the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County.
