News Analysis: Centegra Hospital To Be A Boon to Huntley

New hospital expected to bring $152 million to local economy.

Michael Fisher was excited to learn Centegra Health System won approval for a Huntley hospital, even though he lives in Crystal Lake. “We absolutely need more facilities out here,” he said, having lunch with his three daughters and his mom, who lives in Huntley. Centegra Hospital-Huntley will be closer to his own home, he said. Centegra Health System received approval this week from the Illinois Health Facilities Services and Review Board for a 128-bed hospital at Haligus and Reed roads. Businessman Jim Drendel, whose family has been in Huntley for a generation, also was happy to hear the news this week. Centegra Hospital-Huntley A Community Project

Centegra officials thank community for outpouring of support.

Firefighters. Students. Moms. Professionals. Officials. The list of people testifying at an Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board public hearing last year on Centegra Health System's plan for a Huntley hospital was long. Huntley Fire Chief James Saletta was one of the people who testified in favor of the hospital. At the time, he said having a hospital close by was a matter of life or death for some patients. It was good news for the Huntley Fire Protection District to learn the IHFSRB approved the $233 million, 128-bed hospital on Haligus and Reed roads. “We are excited because the biggest thing is our transport times will be cut in half,” Deputy Chief Ken Caudle said. Currently, the transportation time is 20 minutes to …

Centegra Hospital-Huntley Becomes a Reality

State health board approves plan for a Huntley hospital on Centegra Health Care campus at Haligus and Reed Roads.

A flurry of emails gave Rita Slawek the exciting news that she had longed to hear. “Everybody was like, yeah! We got it,” said Rita Slawek, president of the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce. The news Tuesday that the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved Centegra Hospital-Huntley spread through Huntley via social media and word of mouth. “People are excited,” said Slawek, who attended a hearing in December 2011 where the board narrowly rejected the plan. Tuesday’s news more than made up for that disappointment. The review board approved a Certificate of Need (CON) for a $233 million, 128-bed hospital at Haligus and Reed Roads by a vote of 6-3. “Centegra Health System has been an outstanding partner for many years …
