There is no planning or coordination between the individual projects. That would be up to the village planners and board to coordinate with the state and construction companies....too much like work. Let's all just deal with the inconvenience for the next 2 years, so they can complete a 9 month job, overcharge us and be repairing it 5 years from now because of piss poor engineering and materials…   more ›

Why is this construction being started before Rakow is FINISHED? I drive daily east for my job (a 1 hour drive - each way) and now this has been made impossible to get to work without going through street construction. AND the others are so right.. we need another bridge. Where are our village leaders when we need them?   more ›

Western Bypass Progress Moves Forward

The Illinois Department of Transportation is expected to award a bid for the construction project in coming weeks.

It appears the ball is officially rolling on the long-awaited Western Bypass in Algonquin. The Illinois Department of Transportation opened up bids for the main construction contract last week. The lowest of 13 bids came from F H Paschen, which has its headquarters in Chicago, for $33,346,673.91, said Guy Tridgell, spokesman for the Illinois DOT, in an e-mail response.  IDOT now has 45 days to review the contract before awarding the bid, Tridgell said.  "The contractor has the option to back out or accept at that time," Tridgell said.  The purpose of the four-lane bypass is to relieve congestion at Route 31 and Route 62 downtown Algonquin.  On its northern edge, the Western Bypass will connect with Route 31 just north of Cary Road. The …

Excavation Work for Western Bypass to Begin Monday

The Illinois Department of Transportation will begin the extensive excavation and earthwork needed to construct the long-awaited Western Bypass.

The first steps toward building the long-awaited Western Bypass should, weather-permitting, start Monday, state transportation officials said. Extensive earthwork and excavation will begin in the area north of Algonquin Road and west of Illinois 31 to prepare a rough outline of the new bypass route, an Illinois Department of Transportation press release states. The $70 million project would re-route traffic away from the downtown Algonquin area — and in particular, away from the intersection of Route 62 and Route 31 — in an effort to reduce congestion. The grading work should not disrupt traffic and will cost about $4.9 million, the press release states. The primary contractor is Ryan Incorporated Central, of Janesville, Wis. The work is …

Algonquin Takes Small Steps Forward on Western Bypass

The Algonquin Village Board on Tuesday gave the OK on a jurisdictional transfer of Route 31 from the Illinois Department of Transportation to the village.

The village of Algonquin and county transportation officials took steps forward this week to prepare for the long-awaited Western Bypass. The Algonquin Village Board on Tuesday approved a jurisdictional transfer, which would transfer the responsibility for Route 31 — which includes Main Street through downtown Algonquin — from the Illinois Department of Transportation to the village. This transfer would give the village more power to make changes to its downtown area. Also this week, the McHenry County Division of Transportation started work on Route 31 at Klasen Road/Virginia Road. The project will widen Route 31 to two through lanes in each direction from just south of Linden Avenue in Algonquin to just north of Trinity Drive in Lake in …
