Major Recall of 'Nap Nanny' Baby Recliners

Following the deaths of several children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is working to get the recliners out of homes.

  At the request of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, four retailers are voluntarily recalling Nap Nanny baby recliners after several deaths and more than 100 cases of a child falling, or nearly falling out. The companies participating in the recall are Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby (with a Crystal Lake store), Diapers.com and Toys R Us/Babies R Us (also in Crystal Lake). The models include Nap Nanny Generations One and Two, and the Chill™ model infant recliners. "CPSC is warning parents and caregivers that these baby recliners contain defects in the design, warnings and instructions, which pose a substantial risk of injury and death to infants," the agency said in its announcement. Poll: Will You Shop on Thanksgiving Night?

Major retailers Target, Walmart, Sears, and Kmart are planning to open for holiday shopping at 8 and 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving night.

  Some consumers may enjoy gobbling down a Thanksgiving meal and then running out to shop for pre-Black Friday deals that night. But as retailers start the holiday shopping season earlier and earlier each year, the idea isn't sitting well with employees forced to work the Thanksgiving night shift. Target employees are so upset about the company's decision to open stores at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving night, one worker has started an online petition asking the retailer to "give Thanksgiving back to families," and restore it to its rightful holiday status. As of Tuesday night, the petition had more than 200,000 signatures. This year, Walmart, Kmart and Sears are opening their doors at 8 pm Thursday, Nov. 22, according to their websites. Kmart is …

Holiday sales competition starting even earlier this year as retailers look for their portion of our shopping dollars.

With the elections over, like so many others, I was looking forward to a break from all the campaigning. However, this year we will have no "break" from the commercials. As most of you are well aware, the campaigning for our hard-earned cash had already overlapped the campaigning for our votes. Now that the votes are cast, the retail sales' campaigns have fully taken over the commercial breaks. So, how can we take advantage of sales with the big name retailers and stay in or around Huntley? Well, Walmart is one good example and the fact that Toys R Us has a temporary space at the Huntley Outlet Center is going to be helpful to Huntley shoppers.
