Salvation Army: Donations Down for Red Kettle Campaign, Toy Collections
Officials for the Salvation Army want to remind people to donate to the Red Kettles and other programs, if they are able, as the number of people seeking help in McHenry County continues to climb.
The Salvation Army on Thursday announced it has fallen behind on its holiday fundraising goal for the 2012 Christmas season. The McHenry County Salvation Army is fighting an uphill battle with the economy, according to Major Garry Lowder, the local commanding officer. "The economy is making this a very challening fundraising campaign," Lowder said. "Many people who gave to us as recent as last year are finding themselves in need of our services this year." The annual Red Kettle Campaign currently is about $25,000 below 2011, and donations of toys, food and gift cards for the Toyland Toyshop also are lower than last year, at this point in time, he said.
