One of two drivers in a northern Kane County car vs. semi crash on Thursday has died, the Sheriff's Office said. Martin Baureis, 26, of Johnsburg, Ill., died at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Sheriff's detectives were notified of the death at about 11 a.m. Friday morning. Baureis was taken to Condell Medical by the Flight for Life Helicopter after the crash, which occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Sheriff's deputies reported to the area of Route 72 east of Big Timber Road in Rutland Township and found the crash scene. Baureis was driving a Toyota four-door westbound on Route 72 when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, the Sheriff's Office said. Update: The man injured in this crash has died. A 26-year-old McHenry County man was seriously injured in a car vs. semi crash Thursday in northern Kane County, according to police. Martin Baureis, of Johnsburg, Ill., was driving a Toyota four-door on Route 72 east of Big Timber Road when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday. "(Baureis) was flown by Flight for Life to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill. with life-threatening injuries," the Sheriff's Office statement said. Government is generally forbidden to deliver, sponsor, orchestrate, or encourage prayers. Since the nation's founding, however, many legislatures have traditionally opened their meetings with prayer. Given this historical tradition, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that legislative prayers are constitutionally permissible if, but only if, they do not use language or symbols specific to one religion. (Courts have held, however, that elected school boards are different than legislatures, and are forbidden to open their sessions even with nonsectarian prayers.) Rutland Township’s annual town meeting will begin like any other of the township meetings held this month, with a welcome and call to order. The third item on the township’s agenda is what has people calling the Rutland Township supervisor’s office. Rutland Township trustees voted recently to add a prayer after the Pledge of Allegiance. Trustees were discussing the agenda for the town meeting last month when Trustee Steven Schuldt brought up the topic of adding prayer to the meeting, Trustee Bulla Swanson said. Meeting planned with Rutland Township and Kane County officials.
Sun City Huntley residents will get a crash course in property taxes at a Saturday meeting with Rutland Township and Kane County officials. Resident Herm Faubl helped organize the meeting at Sun City Huntley after he and other neighbors received their tax bills and noticed a significant increase in their property taxes. The average tax bill in Kane County was $600 more than last year, with one person paying an additional $2,000, Faubl said. Meanwhile, McHenry County tax bills were calculated with different assessment figures than Kane County, even if the homes were the same, he said.
