Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Kane County

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies report Route 20 closed from Nessler to Plank Road.

UPDATED 7 PM, WEDNESDAY, MAY 15 A 21-year-old Sycamore woman died Wednesday in a motorcycle accident on Route 20 in Elgin Township. Angela Hansen, of the 1600 block of  Sparkhayes Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Kane County Sheriff’s office said. Hansen was driving a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle stopped on Plank Road facing north while waiting to make a turn east on Route 20, sheriff’s deputies said. The motorcycle began turning, accelerated rapidly then crossed the roadway and struck a semi-trailer. Hansen was thrown from the motorcycle. The driver of the semi truck, Christopher Portner, of Stockton, was not injured. No tickets have been issued and the crash remains under investigation by Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the …

Sheriff: Man in Car vs Semi Crash Died at Hospital

He was 26 years old. The crash is still under investigation.

One of two drivers in a northern Kane County car vs. semi crash on Thursday has died, the Sheriff's Office said. Martin Baureis, 26, of Johnsburg, Ill., died at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Sheriff's detectives were notified of the death at about 11 a.m. Friday morning. Baureis was taken to Condell Medical by the Flight for Life Helicopter after the crash, which occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Sheriff's deputies reported to the area of Route 72 east of Big Timber Road in Rutland Township and found the crash scene. Baureis was driving a Toyota four-door westbound on Route 72 when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, the Sheriff's Office said. One Seriously Injured in Car vs Semi Crash

The car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to police. Here's what happened.

Update: The man injured in this crash has died. A 26-year-old McHenry County man was seriously injured in a car vs. semi crash Thursday in northern Kane County, according to police. Martin Baureis, of Johnsburg, Ill., was driving a Toyota four-door on Route 72 east of Big Timber Road when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday. "(Baureis) was flown by Flight for Life to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill. with life-threatening injuries," the Sheriff's Office statement said. Skeletal Remains Found Near Hampshire Identified

Authorities said the remains belong to a Hampshire woman missing since May.

Updated Monday, Nov. 26:  Kane County Sheriff’s Detectives were able to positively identify the remains located behind 1811 Cameron Dr. as those of Kathey Wilk.  The cause of death is undetermined; however investigators do not suspect that foul play was involved in her death, according to a Kane County Sheriff's release. ______________ Hampshire police discovered skeletal remains Friday while searching for a woman missing since May, authorities said. Kathey Wilk, 52, of 1731 Cameron Drive, was reported missing on May 7 by her brother. Boy Scout Donates Coats to Kane County Sheriff’s Office

Geneva Boy Scout working on his Eagle Scout Project donates more than 300 coats.

  Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez received a donation of over 300 winter coats this week to be given to inmates who are released from the Kane County Adult Justice Center in the winter but do not have a coat to wear.  Many times people are brought into the jail during the summer but released in the winter and they are ill prepared for the climate they are going into, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. This has been a recognized need at the Adult Justice Center for some time and it was through the work of Ted Spiro, a Geneva Boy Scout working on his Eagle Scout Project, who filled the need. Spiro is the son of Kane County Sheriffs’ Office Chaplain Peter Spiro.  When the younger Spiro heard of the need his idea for his Eagle …

Kane County Sheriff Investigate Suspicious Incident Involving Man Offering a Child a Ride

Incident in Maple Park a reminder for parents to keep an eye on children and discuss stranger danger, especially on Halloween.

The Kane County Sheriff’s office is warning parents about a suspicious incident in Maple Park where a man approached an 8-year-old boy Tuesday evening. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 46W440 Beith Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle that pulled into the driveway around 5:15 p.m. The driver asked the boy, who was outside the home, if he wanted a ride, reports stated. The boy’s mother heard the vehicle and gave police a description: a maroon 1990’s model, four door, possibly a hatchback with a loud muffler, authorities said. The driver was described as an older male with white hair and glasses and a “wrinkly” face, according to reports. Sheriff’s Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. The award was created in 2007 to honor the selfless actions of Roscoe Ebey who was murdered in his Aurora Township home.

Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez is seeking nominations for the 2012 Roscoe Ebey Citizen of the Year award. Perez created this award in 2007 to honor Roscoe Ebey who was murdered in his Aurora Township home. Roscoe was a selfless member of the community and a military veteran. Tanner Conroyd of St. Charles Area Found Safe in Chicago

The woman was located in a Chicago-area hospital, where officials said media attention alerted them to call authorities.

Tanner Conroyd, the St. Charles-area woman whose disappearance on Sunday after an argument with family members sparked a search from Chicago to Normal, was located safe in a Chicago hospital, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday shortly before 12:30 p.m. “At approximately 11:15 a.m. today, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a Chicago area hospital who confirmed that Tanner is at their facility and being treated,” Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler wrote in a release. “The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the facility or going into details of her condition. Newly Donated Vests to Help Protect K9 Unit

A donation of three ballistic vests will help protect the K9 unit in potentially fatal situations.

  The Kane County Sheriff’s office received a generous donation this summer of three ballistic vests for the office’s K9 unit. The vests help to protect the unit when they are responding to a potentially dangerous situation involving an armed suspect. Brett Milo, of the Milo Group in St. Charles, donated the vests. Each vest costs approximately $1500, according to a press release. “K9's are the last officers to receive any protection,” Milo said. “Almost all K9 armor is donated. I had the opportunity to do so, and gladly took it." A dog in the K9 unit has never been killed, however the previous vests, “were outdated,” Lt. Patrick Gengler said. Kane County Sheriff Confiscate 87 Pounds of High-Grade Cannabis

Kane County sheriff’s deputies confiscated 84 pounds of high-grade cannabis, worth an estimated $250,000 during a traffic stop Tuesday on eastbound Interstate 90. A deputy stopped Brian Ballestrasse, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck, on charges of speeding and following too closely on I-90 near the Randall Road overpass at 12:40 p.m., according to reports. During the stop, the deputy developed information leading him to believe Ballestrasse, 62, Kent, Wash., might be involved in drug trafficking and requested the K9 unit from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office to the scene, reports stated. The K9 officer found the cannabis hidden inside two water heaters in the bed of the truck, deputies said. The value was estimated at $250,000, …
