Bags Tournament raises money for charity.

The Huntley Rotary Club has announced its fifth Annual Bags Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, March 9 at Tee2Green Indoor Golf & Gallery Sports Lounge in Huntley. The tournament style competition will be a best of three games with winners advancing to the next round. First and second place champions will receive cash prizes of $350 and $200 respectively. Huntley Rotary will use proceeds from the tournament entry fee and also a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Grafton Food Pantry located on Smith Drive, and other local charities. Players are also needed for the tournament. The cost to enter is $35 per person or $70 per team. The fee also includes a lunch buffet featuring pulled pork, brats, hotdogs, and more. Huntley Rotary Club members will help unload and distribute 10,000 pounds of food at the Grafton Food Pantry, 12191-B Smith Drive, on Saturday, Aug. 4. Food will be distributed beginning at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Rotary donated funds to purchase meat, fresh produce, cleaning supplies, and more. The Rotary Club holds various fundraisers throughout the year to fund such projects. At the Lake in the Hills Rockin’ Rotary Ribfest the Huntley Club ran the corn roast booth, and in November the club sells citrus fruit for the holidays. The Grafton Food Pantry serves more than 200 families each month, and collects non-perishable donations throughout the area. Members have corn roast booth to raise money for local charitable efforts.
Huntley Rotary Club member Jim Vaccaro had the tough job Friday of standing next to a roaster that reaches 500 degrees, and handling the hot corn on the cob in the 103-degree weather. The temperature coupled with the heat radiating from the roaster made it even hotter for Vaccaro, who was still enjoying himself at the Lake in the Hills Rotary Club’s Rockin’ Ribfest. “You get use to it,” he said, adding, “not really,” laughing. “I’m glad we have the lemonade guy next to us,” he said. Vaccaro was the guy handling the roasting for the club as members and volunteers sold corn on the cob. The annual fundraiser helps pay for club’s charitable efforts in the community, including purchasing dictionaries for school children. “I’m the nut behind …
