Huntley Police: Rockford Man Arrested in Car Hijacking

Kane County State's Attorney's office authorizes felony charges against suspect in car hijacking involving a cab driver.

  A 31-year-old Rockford man is charged with numerous felonies in Thursday’s car hijacking at Huntley Prime Outlet Mall, Huntley police said. Christopher L. Mackey, of 1306 North Horace Avenue, is charged with vehicular hijacking, a Class 1 felony, robbery, a Class 2 felony and aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony, police said. He was being transported to the Kane County jail. Mackey was at bond call early Friday. Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies took Mackey into custody in Rockford around 8 p.m. Thursday after authorities developed information about his whereabouts following the hijacking in Huntley. Cab Driver Victim of Car Hijacking at Huntley Mall

Offender flees to Rockford where he eludes police.

  An unknown offender struck a cab driver in the neck with an object and stole his cab along with cash Wednesday morning, police said. The cab driver told police he picked up a fare in Hoffman Estates and was on the way to Rockford when the offender asked him to stop at Prime Outlet Mall, 11800 Factory Shops Boulevard, round 9:26 a.m., according to reports. After the cab driver pulled into the north end of the parking lot, the offender struck him, pushed him out of the cab and fled, police said. The victim suffered puncture wounds to his neck and was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, police said. Huntley police alerted area police agencies through the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network. Police were able to find the cab …

Huntley Farmers Market Season Ends This Weekend

Sixth year winds down following a successful season that drew new customers, organizer says.

The Huntley Farmers Market is ending its sixth season, which saw the market grow steadily as vendors dealt with Mother Nature. Huntley Farmers Market is holding Fall Harvest Day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at its regular location on Coral Street. Fall produce, like squash, winter potatoes, and pumpkins, are available now. One of the market’s newest vendors, Royal Oak Orchard in Harvard, has been bringing a variety of apples, sauces, apple fritters and apple cider donuts, said Barb Read, the market’s manager. The day’s events include a craft fair, free kids activities like pumpkin decorating, a live cooking demonstration where people can learn how to make meals in 10 minutes and free entertainment with local musician Andrew …

Grafton Food Pantry Finds New Home

Grafton Food Pantry announces new location and merger with Faith Community Food Pantry in Huntley.

Grafton Food Pantry has a new home, just in time for its busy season. “We are very excited to be moving to a larger facility that will enable us to continue to provide quality services to our clients in a more spacious setting,” said Harriet Ford, board member and spokesman. The move is tentatively scheduled for mid-November. Ford hopes the pantry is settled in its new location in time for the holidays. In August, the food pantry was notified that the building it currently leases in a Huntley was sold and it would have to move. The pantry spent the last few months searching for a new location.
