Huntley High Grad Ready for the Marines

Huntley High School graduate refuses to let crash injuries end his childhood dream to to serve in the corps.

Every day, Gail Muren sends a text to her son, Danny, with the same message. “I love you. Be smart. Be safe,” she writes. These days, she is able to tell Danny, 18, those words in person. Danny, who recently graduated from the Marine Recruit Training Depot at San Diego, Calif., had a homecoming fit for a Marine at the family’s home in rural Huntley. Danny Muren graduated in January, a semester early, from Huntley High School so he could enlist. It has always been his dream to become a Marine. It’s a dream that almost didn’t come true. In May 2011, Danny miraculously walked away from a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer. He suffered a serious injury to his knee that made him wonder if he would be able to enlist. Kane County Coroner Chuck West Dies After Transplant Complications

West passed away shortly after midnight on July 4. He was 69.

  Kane County Coroner Chuck West has died, his family said through a prepared statement on Wednesday given to Yurs Funeral Homes. West, 69, passed away shortly after midnight on July 4 following complications from a liver transplant, said the statement. Visitation for West will be this Sunday, July 8, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the St. Charles Yurs Funeral Home location, 405 E. Main St. in St. Charles, said Jim Diorio, owner of the funeral home. There will likely be a funeral service on Monday, July 9, or sometime thereafter. The family will continue to finalize the arrangements on Thursday. Huntley's Fourth of July Fireworks Show a Go

Village holding show as other communities cancel or postpone fireworks.

The skies will light up in Huntley tonight as the village holds its annual fireworks show, despite hot and dry conditions. While neighboring communities, including Cary, have canceled Independence Day fireworks shows, Huntley started preparations on Tuesday to make sure the show goes on. Huntley officials said Huntley Fire Protection District firefighters were prepping the area where Mad Bombers Fireworks Production staff will light off the display. Villages and cities have been dealing with the question of whether or not to cancel fireworks shows since last week as the hot, dry conditions persisted. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning with the temperature expected to hit 100 degrees. The heat is combined with dry…

Because we are getting a full ramp to 90 and that will magically make us a better village and a natural draw for hotels and chain restaurants! LMAO BTW, we were in Rkfd ( some of the best fireworks in the state) and decided to come and watch the fireworks here....I've seen better fireworks in backyards.   more ›
