Huntley Jaycees Ready, Willing to Help Families This Christmas

Organization accepting calls to help Huntley families in need.

  Do you know a family that is struggling this year?  Do you know a single mother or father who is unsure how they can provide for their children this year? The Huntley Jaycees, a nonprofit organization, is looking for needy families to help purchase Christmas gifts for their children this year.  The Huntley Jaycees are accepting calls from families, neighbors or friends who have a family in need that could use help this year.  If you know of a family please contact Janet Westberg or Lori Nichols at 847-802-9280 or email them at huntleyjaycees@gmail.com no later then Thursday, December 13 with your request.  Jaycees members will be choosing the families and shopping for them on Sunday Dec. 16 and 17.  For more information or to find out …

Huntley Jaycees Benefit Helping Man Awaiting Double-Lung Transplant

Benefit will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 10, at Pinecrest Golf and Country Club, 11220 Algonquin Road, Huntley.

Andrea Schlosser’s green T-shirt, with white letters spelling out the name Jeremy, stood out in the crowd. Jeremy is her nephew, she explained. She wears the T-shirt to bring attention to a benefit for Jeremy Wilson that the Huntley Jaycees are holding this weekend in Huntley. Wilson, 22, of Rockford, is described as a strong young man with a loving heart. His Facebook page has a post reading, “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.” Schlosser, of Huntley, explained Wilson was born with a lung disease called bronchial pulmonary dysplasia. His doctors did not think he would live to the age of 3, but he did. He survived on life support until he received a double-lung transplant in 1999. He was able …

Jaycees Host Dinner to Help Huntley Woman Battling Cancer

The Huntley Jaycees are helping host a fundraising dinner on Saturday, Feb. 18, to help Linda Palma and her family.

  Linda Palma was told she had six months to live. Now, 16 months later, the Huntley businesswoman - and grandmother to 10 – is sill waging a courageous battle after being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in September 2010. Palma is a realtor with Ventura Associates, an active Huntley Chamber of Commerce member, a mother to three and a grandmother. She has waged her fight against the disease with the help of cutting-edge drugs, experimental treatments, a lot of support, a strong will and hope, according to her daughter, Tracy Palma. As can be expected, however, the family’s medical bills are piling high. To help Lin Palma and her family, the Huntley Jaycees are hosting the “Fight Like Lin” benefit dinner from 5 to 11:30 p.m. …

Huntley Jaycees to host autism fundraiser

Evan McClintock's artwork will be auctioned off

Local child artist Evan McClintock has been busy creating watercolors and pastels, which will raise money to help those impacted by autism. He’s come up with artwork to suit many different tastes. He has the Blackhawks, still life paintings, landscapes and many more. Those pieces will be auctioned off at the 2nd Annual Evan’s Art for Autism fundraiser, hosted March 12 by the Huntley Jaycees at the Village Vintner, 2273 Randall Road, Carpentersville. The money raised from the fundraiser will go toward Autism Speaks Chicago. Evan, who lives in Lake in the Hills, was diagnosed with autism at age 3. The boy, who is now 10, has been interested in creating and expressing himself through his art for nearly as long. His talent has blossomed …

First Snowfall A Pretty Sight, Evokes the Holiday Spirit for Weekend Celebration

Christmas on the Square features craft fair, games and, of course, Santa Claus.

The first snowfall of the year created a pretty picture in downtown Huntley Wednesday.  Flurries started accumulating around the gazebo where the village's holiday tree is being set up for this weekend's Christmas on the Square. The old-fashioned celebration will be held on Coral street, between Woodstock and Church streets on Saturday. Here's a schedule of the day's events from the village's Web site: Noon – 5:00 pm. Jaycees Collect Items for Soldiers

Donations still being accepted.

Operation: Treats for Troops completed another successful donation campaign and the Huntley Jaycees are preparing for the final weigh-in scheduled for November 20. During October, the Jaycees collected items including candy, magazines, and toiletries for the men and women serving overseas as part of Operation: Treats for Troops.  Last year, the campaign collected over 3,500 pounds of supplies. "Last year the donations filled our entire garage," said Nancy Rubino, who along with her husband Frank,  started the Treats for Troops campaign in 2009. The Rubinos' son, Daniel, a 2005 Huntley High School graduate, is currently serving in Iraq as a specialist in the United States Army.
