'Festival of Music' Concert Tonight; Benefits Huntley High School Band Program

The 6th Annual concert Tuesday night features Huntley High School Band and Sun City Concert Band at the Performing Arts Center at the school.

  Huntley High School band director Nick Konwerski and Sun City Concert Band director Donna Bressler are pleased to announce the “Festival of Music” concert. The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Performing Arts Center at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road, Huntley. This 6th annual concert will feature a variety of new musical selections not previously performed by the combined bands. The event is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the door to benefit the Huntley High School band program. Donations from last year’s event totaled $1,079 to which the Sun City Band added another $1,000 for a grand total of $2,079. Holocaust Survivor Shares Story at Huntley High School

Two presentations will be held on April 3 and are open to the public.

Holocaust survivor Lisl Bogart will share her story of survival and courage to students in World History and World Geography at Huntley High School on Wednesday, April 3. Two 60-minute presentations will be held in the school’s performing arts center at 9:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. and will include an introduction from Lisl’s family friend and HHS social worker, Katie Szarzynski, according to a District 158 press release The public is invited to attend either presentation at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road in Huntley.  Audience members will hear Lisl’s story of how she was taken from her home by the Nazi’s and transported to the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp where she was later liberated on May 7, 1945, according to the news …

Huntley High Names Jurs/Raider Way Outstanding Students

  Huntley High School seniors Jacob Augustine and Krystal Gonzalez were selected as Huntley High School’s Jurs/Raider Way Outstanding Students of the Month award recipients. The award, started by Huntley businessman Tom Jurs, is given to students who exhibit the qualities of the Red Raider Way: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Involved. Augustine is a phenomenal AP Spanish student who uses his gift for his foreign language to help others around him, said Spanish teacher Julie Swartzloff, who nominated him. Every time there is an opportunity to volunteer, he is the first in line. He has volunteered his time as a bilingual babysitter for the District 158 Bilingual Parent Committee meetings several times this past fall. In addition, he …

Huntley Girls Basketball Finishes Fourth at State

The girls headed to Normal this past weekend to compete in Class 4A state tournament.

For the first time in the school's history, the Huntley girls basketball team competed at the state tournament this past weekend. The girls took on Rolling Meadows High School in their first game Friday, losing 61-44. The girls returned on Saturday to battle Whitney Young High School in Chicago, losing 60-27 and taking home the fourth place finish in the Class 4A state finals, according to the Daily Herald.  Rolling Meadows High School continued on to the championship where they lost in a close game against Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, 47-48, according to the Illinois High School Association website.

Huntley High School Girls Basketball to Battle in State Semifinals

The team will take on Rolling Meadows High School on Friday in the class 4A semifinals.

The Huntley girls basketball team will be heading to the state finals at Illinois State University in Normal this weekend.  The Red Raiders will take on the Rolling Meadows girls basketball team in the Class 4A semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Illinois High School Association website. The tournament will wrap up on Saturday with the 4A finals. The Huntley girls cinched their first trip to state in the school's history after winning 47-43 against Wheaton Warrenville South in the Dundee-Crown Supersectional this past Monday, according to the Northwest Herald.  The win for Huntley (29-6) ended a 15-game winning streak for Wheaton (29-4), according to the Daily Herald. Huntley High School's Matt Haage Qualifies for State in Swimming

The state meet will be held this weekend.

Huntley High School senior Matthew Haage will be heading to the state final meet in swimming this weekend.  Haage will compete in the 50-yard freestyle after qualifying at his sectional meet in St. Charles last weekend with a time of 21.90 seconds, according to the Illinois High School Association website.  The state final meet will be held on Feb. 22 and 23 at New Trier High School in Winnetka.  The IHSA website has a full list of this year's state qualifiers. 

District 158 Plans Upgrades to Huntley High School Athletic Fields

The addition of synthetic football turf and more stadium seating is planned and construction should start this summer, according to the Northwest Herald.

District 158 is moving forward with plans for $12 million in renovations to Huntley High School, according to the Northwest Herald.  The Northwest Herald reports the District 158 Board of Education recently met with a construction manager regarding upgrades to the school's athletic fields, which would include the addition of synthetic football turf, built-in irrigation systems and more stadium seating.

One more example of how our taxes are going up for non-core education fluff and unneeded entertainment... its got to stop! Come on - $12 million!. Also thought the Village has a ban on expansion of irrigation systems after last summer's drought - guess the HS got a wink wink and a pass when they went for their building permit. Huntley High School's Brandon Mabry Qualifies for State Wrestling Tournament

Several area wrestlers qualified for state at a sectional tournament in Barrington this past weekend.

Huntley High School's Brandon Mabry qualified for the state wrestling tournament this past weekend after placing third at the Barrington sectional meet, according to IHSA results.  At 195 pounds, the Huntley High School senior will now compete at the state tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign.  Several other area wrestlers also qualified for next weekend's state tournament at the Barrington sectional meet on Saturday. Huntley High School's 'Orchesis' Presents Annual Showcase

Showcase starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 to 9.

  Orchesis, Huntley High School’s Dance Club will present its annual showcase at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Feb. 7-9. Advance tickets are $5, or admission is $7 at the door. The show will be held in the Huntley High School Performing Arts Center, 13719 Harmony Rd., Huntley. This year's show, “Unspoken,” features many styles of dance including hip hop, modern, lyrical, tap, jazz, and Indian, according to a District 158 press release.  The Huntley High School Orchesis program began in 2008 with the focus of introducing high school students and the community to dance as an art. Huntley High School Hosts Free FAFSA Workshop

The workshop will be held on Feb. 6. You can reserve your spot now.

Filling out your federal student aid application for the first time can be a confusing process.  With the hopes of helping parents and students figure out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application, Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road, will host a workshop on Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in labs 220 and 222 at the high school, according to a District 158 press release.  Karen Macella, a trained FAFSA expert from the Illinois Student Aid Commission, will lead the workshop. She will also be available to answer questions and help with FAFSA completion, according to the news release.  Two Spanish speaking interpreters will be on hand to assist at the workshop.  The workshop is free and open to the public.
