The class raised money for the project adding landscaping to the high school's grounds.
Justin Veach graduated from the old Huntley High School in 1997, back when the senior class had 63 students. He was in the last class to graduate. The current Huntley High School, on the Harmony Road campus opened that fall. Veach doesn't remember what, if any, senior gift his class presented. But he had a hand in the Class of 2012's senior class gift. He arrived on campus Friday morning with a crew to plant about $2,000 worth of trees, shrubs and flowers. The senior class raised the $2,000 throughout the year. Veach Landscaping, based in Huntley, is a family business that began in 1984. Jason Veach got a call from Huntley resident, Kathleen Wiedenfeld, whose son graduated last week, asking if he would help with the senior class gift. As…

Ceremony draws more than 3,000 people to the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates Saturday who celebrated with the new high school grads.
Largest Huntley graduating class spurs large turnout.
The Sears Center proved to be a subtle yet effective backdrop Saturday for Huntley High School as administrators and graduates congratulated the Class of 2012 and spoke of the real world environment they were about to enter. “I think it’s better to have it here (at the Sears Centre),” said Senior Class President Brandon Bencko before the ceremony at the Hoffman Estates arena. “One, it’s more professional. Two, it’s allows us to have more people here to celebrate with us. Basically you can have your entire family here if you want which we couldn’t have at the high school.” An estimated 3,000-plus people attended the ceremony that, until this year, had been held in the high school gymnasium where seating was limited. This year, each …

High school recognizing young men and women who've enlisted and will be joining the military after graduation.
Daniel Diaz de Leon walked down Huntley’s Main Street in sync with his fellow U.S. Marine Corp recruits at the village’s Memorial Day parade. Diaz de Leon is one of seven of Huntley High School’s class of 2012 who are entering the Marine Corps after graduation. The group marched with Sun City Marines and Marine recruiter Sgt. Lawrence Prete. “When we were marching, I heard one of them say this is one of the proudest moments of their lives,” said Prete, whose assignment includes visiting Huntley High School monthly. He works out of the Carpentersville recruiting office. There are 15 Huntley High School students from the Class of 2012 heading off to the military who will be recognized at Saturday’s graduation. Increasing size of graduation classes means school needs more space for ceremony.
Huntley High School’s class of 2012 is ushering in a new era. becoming the first class to have its graduation ceremony at the Sears Centre Arena. The school’s graduation has been held at the Huntley High east gym for decades, but it simply isn’t big enough anymore to hold all the graduates. This year’s graduation is at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Sears Centre Arena, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway, Hoffman Estates. “It’s very exciting,” Miller said. While some people who’ve seen generations of their family graduate from the high school gym may feel nostalgic, the fact is the school is “out of room,” she said. Huntley High is graduating about 540 seniors this year, said Karen Miller, senior class sponsor. The class of 2012 is the largest …

Each graduate's family was given four tickets free, after that they were $10 each. My family alone contributed $100 towards the graduation ceremony. We attended Conant HS graduation the next day and all tickets were free, you actually didn't even need a ticket. The ceremony was not over the top, it was very nice. Great job Huntley HS and Class of 2012. Congratulations.   more ›
