The Huntley Farmers Market is ending its sixth season, which saw the market grow steadily as vendors dealt with Mother Nature. Huntley Farmers Market is holding Fall Harvest Day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at its regular location on Coral Street. Fall produce, like squash, winter potatoes, and pumpkins, are available now. One of the market’s newest vendors, Royal Oak Orchard in Harvard, has been bringing a variety of apples, sauces, apple fritters and apple cider donuts, said Barb Read, the market’s manager. The day’s events include a craft fair, free kids activities like pumpkin decorating, a live cooking demonstration where people can learn how to make meals in 10 minutes and free entertainment with local musician Andrew …

It’s National Farmers Market week and what better way to mark it by voting Huntley Farmers Market as one of America’s favorite markets. Huntley Farmers Market is one of the candidates in the America’s Favorite Farmers Markets in the American Farmland Trust’s fourth annual contest. So far, the Glenwood Sunday Market ranks at the top of markets in Illinois with 257 votes. Neighboring Woodstock Farmers Market comes in at No. 2 with 223 votes. Huntley has not made the top 5 list_ yet. Voting continues through Sept. 3 at the American Farmland Trust’s website. This weekend’s farmers market is filled with family activities.
The Fourth of July holiday celebration continues through Saturday at Huntley’s Farmers Market with the All American Family Fun Day. A highlight of the day is the Around the Block parade where children and their families are invited to decorate bikes, strollers, even pets, for a parade around the block. Materials to use for decorations will be available at 10 a.m. at the Farmers Market provided by the Huntley Jaycees. The parade begins at 11:45 a.m. on Church and Coral streets, to Main Street to Woodstock Street to 1st street and back to Church Street. Huntley Farmers Market needs your vote to make it one of America’s Favorite Farmers Markets in the American Farmland Trust’s fourth annual contest. Shoppers throughout the country can vote for their favorite markets beginning today at 11 a.m. at the American Farmland Trust’s website. The summer-long competition aims to see which farmers markets can generate the most votes from their customers. The Huntley Farmers Market’s season is here with returning vendors as well as new vendors. The Farmers Market has vendors offering everything from duck eggs to organic gluten free cinnamon rolls to homemade dog treats. Cathy Piwko helps out at the Huntley Farmers Market every year, and every year she finds it becomes a place to catch up with friends and neighbors. “It’s fun to talk to everyone and catch up,” Piwko said, who also likes buying the fresh produce. She finds the farmers market produce lasts longer. She loves the onions and tomatoes from Wagner’s Produce. The farmers market has become part of the fabric of Huntley that helps to keeps its small-town roots alive.
