Comcast has turned on more than 1,000 wi-fi hotspots throughout the Chicago suburbs as well as several hotspots throughout the McHenry County area. While the hotspots are meant to help Xfinity Wi-Fi customers connect more easily while on the go, the company will be running a promotion that allows anyone to use the hotspots from May 24 through July 4, according to the Chicago Tribune. No one was injured in the accident, according to the Northwest Herald.
An elderly woman accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake pedal and drove through the wall of a Huntley commercial building Wednesday morning, according to the Northwest Herald. Huntley High School placed second overall at the home sectional meet on Friday, May 17.
Help Huntley Patch get to 700 "likes" on Facebook Several local boys track and field athletes will be headed to the state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston this Thursday through Saturday. The Huntley High School boys track team placed second overall with 56 points at the Huntley boys sectional track and field meet on Friday, May 17. Grant Community High School came in first place with 83 points, according to preliminary results posted on the IHSA website. Crystal Lake Central placed fifth overall with 49 points. The Huntley relay teams performed well capturing sectional titles — and qualifying for state — in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay and also qualifying for state in the 4x800-meter relay. A look at income levels in suburban towns with Metra stops provides a glimpse at the disparity in wealth throughout the area, according to an interactive map posted on Crain's Chicago Business Journal. Among all Chicago and suburban Metra stops, nearby Woodstock ranked as the 122nd highest average income $64,284 while Cary ranked as the 40th highest income with an average income of $98,454 and Crystal Lake ranked as the 78th highest income at $78,488, according to Crain's. On the northwest line, the Barrington stop had the highest income level, ranking as the 17th highest income at $120,880. Burton L. Showers, aka “Sarge”, was presented with a Quilt of Valor by seven of his former students at PHS, along with the Gazebo Quilters of Huntley who created the masterpiece.
A former Palatine High School History teacher and D211 administrator received an honorable surprise honor on Monday, May 6, from several of his former students from the PHS Class of 1957, and the Gazebo Quilters of Huntley. Burton L. Showers, 87, of Palatine, fondly known as “Sarge”, was presented with a 'Quilt of Valor' at Emmett’s Ale House, 110 N. Brockway St., during what he thought was a lunch gathering with seven students he taught U.S. History to at Palatine High School. “It’s a great thing, I was very surprised – this is something special,” Showers said. The church has seen rapid growth with 5,300 households currently attending attending services compared to 350 households 15 years ago, according to the Northwest Herald.
After two years of work, an $8 million addition at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley recently opened to church-goers and includes 33,000 square feet of additional space, according to the Northwest Herald. The Parish Ministry Center has 17 classrooms that can be used for religious education and then converted "into meeting rooms for staff, parishioners and the public," and a full-service kitchen, according to the article.

Huntley should see temperatures in the 60s and 70s this weekend.
Who is ready for some spring weather this weekend? Huntley might just be in luck. Temperatures should be in the 60s Friday and Saturday and could reach a high of 70 degrees on Sunday with plenty of sunshine expected.
