Video: Behind the Scenes at a Huntley Haunt

Joe Buedel has been getting his haunt, at 10716 Wheatlands Way, ready for Halloween for months. The grand opening is Oct. 6.

  Joe Buedel loves scaring people. He gets a kick out of turning his Huntley home into an extreme haunted house every Halloween, building his own props and coming up with new ideas to scare the crowds that gather in his neighborhood every year. Last year, Holiday Habits _ the name of his “haunt” _ drew 4,000 people to view the countless skeletons, tombstones and creepy scenes at his house. He started years ago with a single Halloween decoration _ a creepy butler prop who became known as “Grampa James” _ when he bought his first home. The prop now sits in the basement of his Huntley home, which is his workshop. Buedel is a member of the Chicago Haunt Builders, a group of homeowners who decorate their homes and work on ideas throughout the …
