Huntley High Honor Society Teams up with Grafton Food Pantry

The Oct. 27 and 28 drive will be held at Jewel and Walgreen stores on Route 47.

  While Grafton Food Pantry is always looking for food donations, the Huntley-based pantry also needs personal items for the families it serves. “Personal care items like shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant are needed by everyone, but we cannot purchase these items through the food bank,” said Kathy Schneiter, president of Grafton Food Pantry. So the food pantry and the Huntley High School National Honor Society are teaming up in an effort to collect personal care items. The drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 and Sunday, Oct. 28. High school students will be at the entrance of three Huntley stores: Jewel Osco, 13200 Village Green Drive and both Walgreens stores, located at 12000 Princeton Drive and 9950 Illinois 47…

Advocate Health Care Offers Free Flu Shots for Food

Advocate Health Care Centers hold flu clinics combined with food drive.

  As you gear up for the cool weather, you must also prepare for the impending flu season. Each year hundreds of thousands of Americans are hospitalized for the influenza virus. Depending on the severity of the virus each season, influenza may result in as many as 50,000 deaths per year.  In an effort to mitigate the impact of the flu and support local community food banks, Advocate Health Care is offering “Free Flu Shots for Food” at several locations Saturday, October 20 and Sunday October 21.  Every person, 18 years or older, who brings a non-perishable food item to one of the participating Immediate Care Centers will receive a FREE flu shot - $25 value (while supplies last.)
