Summer is coming to an end. And so are the Classic Cruise Night at Culver's Huntley. The last one of the season will be held tonight at Culver's, 13240 Route 47. Since June, residents have come out to the Crusin' Car Shows, enticed by classic Thunderbirds, El Caminos and more. In addition to the classic cars, there also will be classic music, which you can listen to as you enjoy the fading summer nights. The event have drawn community members from throughout Huntley. There have been Del Webb residents, who used to drive some of the cars on display, as well as some of the youngest residents of Huntley, impressed by the classic cars. The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. tonights. Specials offered by the store on waffle cones will run all day.

Culver's of Huntley hosts its first Cruisin' Car Show of the season Tuesday, drawing about 45 classic cars and hot rods.
Bill McEwen looked around at the Thunderbirds and classic hot rods on display during Culver’s of Huntley’s Cruisin’ Car Show on Tuesday, but his favorite was his very own 1966 Thunderbird. McEwen, of Lake in the Hills, and his son Dan, 17, came out to show off the classic T-Bird, painted a bright red. He just started getting into the cruise night circuit last year. McEwen finds he gets many ideas to do more things to the car, which was restored when he bought it. “I saw it and had to have it,” he said. He doesn’t drive it on a daily basis. “Oh no,” he said. “I try not to drive it in the rain or snow.” Richard Myers, Culver’s assistant manager, said the Cruisin’ Car Show is starting to get a following by word of mouth. Culver's Huntley reaches out to help charities helping others and the community.
Richard Myers is surprised, amazed and excited to see so many organizations trying to help others. He sees this every week as a manager of Culver’s of Huntley’s Scoopie nights. Scoopie Night is a fundraiser local charities can hold at the restaurant, 13240 Illinois 47, to raise money. Myers oversees the fundraisers. Scoopie nights usually are held from September to May, but Culver’s of Huntley is expanding it to the summer months this year. The Huntley restaurant’s program has become a model for other franchises, Myers said, adding the fundraiser slots on Monday and Tuesday nights are filling up for the summer. “These (groups) are doing phenomenal jobs in meeting needs,” Myers said. An example is Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County. …
A list of fundraisers scheduled this summer includes Relay for Life and other notable charities.
Jenny Wise spent Monday night serving up burgers and fries at Culver’s of Huntley’s Scoopie Night because she has a cause — supporting breast cancer research. The Huntley mom sported a pin that read, “I wear pink for my mom” on a pink shirt that read “TAG,” the name of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk team she joined five years ago. TAG is named after Tracey Anne Geils, who died in 2003 of breast cancer. The team has had lots of members but Wise is the only one walking this year. She is participating in the San Diego Calif., three-day walk in November. Teams must raise $2,300 to participate, so Wise does fundraisers to generate donations. Scoopie Night helps her raise donations in an easy way. She agreed to work a four-hour shift and …

Cops, volunteers serve Culver's customers, collect money for the Special Olympics.
If a police officer must approach your vehicle, may it be with a cold drink on a hot day as was the case Saturday at the Culver's in Huntley.
