Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez received a donation of over 300 winter coats this week to be given to inmates who are released from the Kane County Adult Justice Center in the winter but do not have a coat to wear. Many times people are brought into the jail during the summer but released in the winter and they are ill prepared for the climate they are going into, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. This has been a recognized need at the Adult Justice Center for some time and it was through the work of Ted Spiro, a Geneva Boy Scout working on his Eagle Scout Project, who filled the need. Members of Boy Scout Troop 267 manned a table filled with popcorn treats and Christmas wreath order forms in the narthex of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, to raise funds for the activities of Boy Scout Troop 267 sponsored by the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666. The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.8 million members in over 14,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 72 million volunteer hours and $151 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.

Recently released documents reveal Boy Scout leaders in Patch towns who were expelled from the organization and placed on list.
The Boys Scouts of America's method for handling allegations of child abuse by local troop leaders was expelling the accused and putting the person’s name on an ineligible to volunteer list, or what has become known as a "perversion list." The list was kept a secret and many of the allegations remained confidential, often not reported to police agencies. Last week, a Portland law firm posted 14,500 of files outlining names and cases of abuse involving the Scouts, according to Huffington Post. Within hours, the firm's website crashed, Huffington Post reported. The list includes troop leaders from around the country, including the Chicago area. It has in-depth information about some cases and just the barest of details about other cases. …

Mike Chrisman, 139th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment As the sun glared off a series of flag poles on Saturday, Sept. 22, a sense of pride and patriotism emerged as Boy Scouts from Winfield Troop 575 honored a former scout leader, Illinois Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Kevin Grieco of Bartlett. A memorial, that includes three flag poles and a plaque on a concrete slab, were unveiled at Camp Big Timber west of Elgin, Ill. to honor and recognize the service and sacrifice of a Soldier who was killed in Afghanistan on Oct. 27, 2008.
