Huntley Misses Out on Amtrak Route

Illinois Department of Transportation decides on route with Genoa, Elgin stops.

Huntley will not be included on Amtrak's new Chicago-Rockford-Dubuque route, Illinois Department of Transportation officials said Friday. IDOT chose an alternate route that includes Elgin, Genoa, Rockford and Galena, according to a release the agency issued. "I am very disappointed," Trustee Harry Leopold said, adding, "we have absolutely no idea" why an alternate route was chosen. Huntley's village board launched a petition that gathered 3,000 signatures and worked with local representatives to lobby for a northern route. Huntley officials also met with IDOT about the route on multiple occasions. Huntley Poised to be Transportation, Business Hub

Village works on three key projects.

Huntley is juggling three key projects that it hopes will help make the village a transportation hub and boost its economy. Construction on Route 47 has tied up traffic, closed roads and led to detours all summer long. Last week, officials announced the project reached the halfway point. As that project continues, Huntley is looking at its next major projects: building a full interchange to gain access from Route 47 onto Interstate 90 and convincing state officials to put the village on the proposed Amtrak route from Chicago to Galena to Dubuque, Iowa.
