Foreclosure Lawsuit Filed Against Algonquin Commons

The lawsuit against the 565,000 square foot property is one of the largest foreclosure suits in the Chicago area in recent history, according to Crain's Real Estate Daily.

A foreclosure lawsuit has been filed against Inland Real Estate Corp. for allegations that the Oakbrook-based company stopped making payments on two separate Algonquin Commons shopping center loans last summer, according to media reports. U.S. BANK N.A. filed the foreclosure suit in Kane County Circuit Court in December, seeking repayments of two loans totaling $109 million, according to the Daily Herald.  The Daily Herald reports Inland officials cited in the court filling ongoing vacancies and certain leases that "allowed some tenants to reduce their monthly rents" as a source for its financial woes. The Chicago Business Journal reports the lawsuit filed against the 565,000 square foot property is one of the largest foreclosure cases …

UPDATE: Police Release Details Surrounding Crash at Carter's

An elderly woman crashed her SUV into Carter's Saturday afternoon. No one was seriously injured in the accident.

Follow Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch on Facebook. It was lucky no one was seriously injured in a crash Saturday at the Algonquin Commons, police said Monday. Shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday, a 78-year-old woman driving a sports utility vehicle crashed through the front door of Carter’s, 2102 South Randall Road, on what was an extremely busy holiday shopping day at the Algonquin Commons. The woman, whose name was not immediately available, told police she accidentally pressed on the accelerator instead of her brake while parking at the commons. Her SUV then jumped an island, knocked down a metal fence, went across another island, across the access road, up onto the sidewalk and into the front door of Carter’s, said Sgt. Ryan Markham, …

Mom Wins $2,500 Shopping Spree in Algonquin Commons Raffle

Marilynn Lopez-Vega of Elgin plans to use some of her winnings to buy toys for children in need.

An Elgin mom is putting her family first after winning a $2,500 shopping spree from Algonquin Commons this past week.  Marilynn Lopez-Vega, 35, learned Monday she won the gift card through a raffle she entered while shopping during the early morning hours on Black Friday.  Her first purchase was for her two young girls, Sofia, 5, and Annalys, 2. The girls got two new Christmas dresses with “super glittery shoes.” “Then I went to Trader Joe’s for a couple things we needed. I didn’t want to go crazy,” she said.  Next up, she plans to buy several toys she will donate to the Algonquin Commons’ Toy for Tots campaign.  “This came as a complete surprised so I want to spend some of this money and give back to make other kids happy as well,” she …

Christmas Shopping Starts on Thanksgiving

Many area stores won't wait until Black Friday to open

Thanksgiving has become the new Black Friday when it comes to Christmas shopping. Die-hard shoppers can barely button up their pants again after the feast before they need to be out the door and in line for at their favorite stores. Some stores are even opening their doors before the turkey is carved. This year, K-Mart in Crystal Lake will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The store will then take a break for turkey time, and open again at 8 p.m. for more shopping. Other area stores and malls will at least wait until after your family has time to give thanks for their blessings this year before they start selling. Just barely though. While it used to be that many would eat turkey and mashed potatoes, sleep it off a little…

Holiday Shopping Season Longer This Year

Have you started your holiday shopping already? Sound off in our poll.

So, it's the day after Halloween — is it too early to start thinking about holiday shopping?  For some residents and businesses, the Christmas lights will be hung as soon as the Halloween decorations come down. But hardcore shoppers know when their dream season begins. Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, has become the accepted if unofficial start time of the Christmas rush. It's a huge day for retailers but only the first of a roughly month-long extravaganza. And thanks to Abe Lincoln, who decreed Thanksgiving a national holiday, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who signed into law that it should fall on the fourth Thursday in November, and Pope Gregory XIII, who blessed the calendar we use by papal bull, 2012 has the longest possible …

There are loved ones that I would love to give gifts to just because I love them and and it is Christmas. But I have decided to skip gift giving and Christmas shopping this year for two sensible reasons. 1 - I am out of work and feel whatever funds I have should be wisely used for things that are vital like utilities, mortgage, food etc. 2 - I've carefuly examined that list and determined that …   more ›

Village Vintner Uncorks Winery, Microbrewery in Algonquin

La Trattoria Marianos also opened at the Algonquin Commons in recent days.

A winery/microbrewery and a quaint Italian restaurant opened in recent days in Algonquin. The Village Vintner Winery and Brewery, which formerly operated solely as a winery along Randall Road in Carpentersville, opened Friday just south of Algonquin Commons at 2380 Esplanade Drive. The “soft opening” was announced at 3 p.m. Friday and the business still “packed the house,” according to Village Vintner’s Facebook page. Steve Boyer, owner of Village Vintner, told the Elgin Courier in January that a drop in production forced him to close the doors of his Carpentersville winery on Dec. 31. Deciding to expand, and to build off an original concept he had for Village Vintner, Boyer moved forward with plans for a restaurant at the Algonquin …

Cute place with mediocre ambiance. We started with one server when we arrived at 9:00 for a glass of wine and an appetizer. Then another server came by because the other one was leaving. Overall not impressed with the wine. I tried 3 different reds and settled for a blend that tasted weak for a blend. I had 2 glasses of wine over 3 hours and obviously there is a high alcohol content, so be …   more ›
