AAA: Fatal Crashes for Teens Increase During Summer

Agency offers tips for encouraging safe driving among teenagers.

AAA is urging parents to increase their focus on encouraging traffic safety for their teens during the summer months. The most fatal crashes for teens occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with seven of the 10 deadliest days for teens occurring during the summer months, according to a Monday AAA press release. “Parents should not underestimate the critical role they play in keeping their teens safe, especially during these high-risk months,” said Brad Roeber, AAA Chicago regional president, in the press release. “Life feels more care-free when school’s out and teens have more opportunities to drive or ride in cars late at night with other teens – a deadly mix." Man Cited For Crashing Into Sheriff's Squad Car

The accident happened at the intersection of Route 31 and Crystal Lake Avenue in Crystal Lake.

An area man received a citation this morning after he collided into a McHenry County Sheriff's Department squad car. The crash occurred at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Route 31 and Crystal Lake Avenue in Crystal Lake, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Department press release. The squad car, according to the press release, was stopped at traffic light when it was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by an Aurora man. The McHenry County Sheriff's Department officer was transported to Centegra Medical Center where he was treated and released. The Illinois State Police investigated the crash and cited the Aurora man with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The Aurora man was not injured during the crash and did not seek …
