Police are investigating the bank robbery reported at Fifth Third Bank, 450 S. Randall Road, at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Algonquin Police Department is investigating a bank robbery reported Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank in Algonquin, 450 S. Algonquin Road. The man accused in the robbery got away with an undetermined amount of cash, according to an Algonquin Police Department press release. The man, described as 30 to 40 years old and Hispanic, entered the bank at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, approached a teller and announced the robbery. He implied he had a weapon but did not display it, according to the release. The bank teller complied with the man's demand and no one was hurt in the robbery. A 12-year-old was seriously injured last month when a car struck him as he walked across Haligus Road onto the Marlowe Middle School campus.
Huntley police are launching a campaign to improve safety at the intersection at Haligus Road and Scott Drive. Police will be at the intersection this week, passing out information to motorists and reminding them to drive cautiously. A 12-year-old Marlowe Middle School student was seriously injured last month when a car struck him as he walked across Haligus Road onto the school campus. The boy is recovering from his injuries. The accident came months after a group of parents appeared at a Village Board meeting asking Huntley do something to make the intersection safer. Village Manager Dave Johnson said the village reduced the 35 speed limit to a 20 mph school zone and placed eight traffic signs in the area last fall. A flashing sign also …

The Illinois Department of Transportation will begin the extensive excavation and earthwork needed to construct the long-awaited Western Bypass.
The first steps toward building the long-awaited Western Bypass should, weather-permitting, start Monday, state transportation officials said. Extensive earthwork and excavation will begin in the area north of Algonquin Road and west of Illinois 31 to prepare a rough outline of the new bypass route, an Illinois Department of Transportation press release states. The $70 million project would re-route traffic away from the downtown Algonquin area — and in particular, away from the intersection of Route 62 and Route 31 — in an effort to reduce congestion.
