The girls headed to Normal this past weekend to compete in Class 4A state tournament.
For the first time in the school's history, the Huntley girls basketball team competed at the state tournament this past weekend. The girls took on Rolling Meadows High School in their first game Friday, losing 61-44. The girls returned on Saturday to battle Whitney Young High School in Chicago, losing 60-27 and taking home the fourth place finish in the Class 4A state finals, according to the Daily Herald. Rolling Meadows High School continued on to the championship where they lost in a close game against Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, 47-48, according to the Illinois High School Association website.
The team will take on Rolling Meadows High School on Friday in the class 4A semifinals.
The Huntley girls basketball team will be heading to the state finals at Illinois State University in Normal this weekend. The Red Raiders will take on the Rolling Meadows girls basketball team in the Class 4A semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Illinois High School Association website. The tournament will wrap up on Saturday with the 4A finals. The Huntley girls cinched their first trip to state in the school's history after winning 47-43 against Wheaton Warrenville South in the Dundee-Crown Supersectional this past Monday, according to the Northwest Herald. A 17-year-old Algonquin girl — who has been traveling the world over the past two years as a professional snowboarder — will take to the slopes this week at the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championship in Vail, Colo., according to local media reports. Kirby Kelly will join some of the best snowboarders in the nation during the competition, which will be held Feb. 25 through March 2. Kelly spends much of her winter living and training in Colorado and communicates daily with her parents and brother daily via FaceTime, according to the Northwest Herald. Two soccer clubs, Huntley's Heat United and ALITHSA Arsenal of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills, have announced that they will be creating a joint venture with their high school travel programs. ALITHSA Arsenal of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills is joining with Huntley’s Heat United to compete in their first year as Arsenal Heat United. For running enthusiasts hoping to register for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon this week, technical difficulties have temporarily halted runner registration. Registration opened Tuesday for the 26.2-mile race, which begins and ends in Grant Park, but ended shortly after due to errors with the online registration process. The earliest date and time registration will re-open is 5 p.m. Thursday. "We have been working nonstop with our registration provider to find the root of the problem and a solution. Many runners were able to sign up before the registration process was suspended. There are currently 15,000 entries remaining. Huntley High School senior Matthew Haage will be heading to the state final meet in swimming this weekend. Haage will compete in the 50-yard freestyle after qualifying at his sectional meet in St. Charles last weekend with a time of 21.90 seconds, according to the Illinois High School Association website. The state final meet will be held on Feb. 22 and 23 at New Trier High School in Winnetka. The IHSA website has a full list of this year's state qualifiers.
Valentine's Day event, part of a worldwide movement taking place Feb. 14, aims to raise awareness regarding violence against women. Title Boxing dance will benefit Turning Point.
Title Boxing Club in Crystal Lake is hosting, "One Billion Rising," a dancing event meant to encourage people to rise up against violence towards women. Dancing will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Title Boxing Club, 435 Angela Ln., Crystal Lake (facing Randall Road). "One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime," said in a press release. "One billion women violated is an atrocity. One billion dancing is a revolution!" There is a $5 entry fee, which will be donated to Turning Point of McHenry County.
