Is this a want or a true need - much like the $12 million price tag to install irrigation for theRead More Huntley HS field this summer? Will student's grades and career opportunities be improved with this cost which WILL BE reflected in our tax rates.

This seems to be typical of the district 158 board. Two years ago they screwed with our tax rates.Read More Now this "miscalculation". Total BS. I as a Sun City resident will protest strong with other residents any attempt to raise our taxes for schools to pay for this. Residents are already talking to the Sun City Board members to see what they can and will do about this.

Walter White, Koenig ran in West Deerfield. I'm Township GOP Chair of Moraine in case you areRead More looking to reload your squirt gun. And yes, I strongly supported Dold. You may also want to brush up on past Patch articles to find out where I stood on the last State Representative race candidates for the GOP in my district. If we ran Abraham Lincoln, you would have been critical of him. Next time make sure you plug up that little hole where you put the water in, otherwise you will get yourself all wet again!

Should Huntley be included on this list? Most certainly. If you look at the numbers (collegeRead More readiness, reading and math scores), Huntley should be nestled in the 40's (perhaps before Schaumburg High). This list is always a great source for discussion. Schools like Northside and Payton are selective or magnet schools that get to choose the caliber of students enrolled. As part of the CPS, they show Operational Costs Per Student (OPS) of about $13,600 (source: http://iirc.niu.edu). Similarly, Deerfield (OPS of $20,000), Stevenson and Hinsdale Central (OPS $16,800), and Prospect (OPS $16,200) all draw from a deep tax base that show the high correlation of OPS to school performance based on the way the State of Illinois funds education through local taxes. Cary-Grove (OPS $11,911), Richmond-Burton (OPS $13,555), and Marengo (OPS $13,269) all reflect OPS well above Huntley's OPS of $8,226. In fact, the national average OPS is close to $11,000. Huntley shows a College Readiness index of 31.2, with Reading and Math proficiencies over 60% (65% Reading; 61% Math). Those values put Huntley in a unique class of higher performance with lower OPS. It truly represents a better value for the taxpayer's money.
