Lots of Support for Sun City Huntley's 9/11 Memorial

Organizers grateful for outpouring of support.

Peg Mulhall is amazed at the number of people stepping forward to participate and help with this weekend’s 9/11 American Flag Memorial Project.

Several hundred people have volunteers to put 2,977 flags commemorating each life lost on Sept. 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the Pennsylvania meadow terrorist attacks.

“I don’t know how to even put it into words,” Mulhall said of the support the group has received. “We have had so many phone calls asking where can I go, how can I help. A lot of times they will cry and say ‘I’m so happy you are doing this. I need to be a part of this.’ ”

has provided lots of help too, Mulhall said. Sun City neighborhoods also have contributed as well as banks, restaurants and local Lions clubs.

“For the Memorial Six, it’s been an experience I will never forget,” Mulhall said.
