  • Is Huntley Community Radio (HCR) a commercial or public radio station?

Similar to Public; but unlike Public Radio, HCR as a Community Radio Station is dedicated to its community and is volunteer-run. HCR is a 501(c)(3) Illinois not-for-profit corporation. As such, HCR is not allowed to raise funds from advertising.  All start-up and operating funds are acquired through donations and grants.

  • What is the purpose of HCR?

HCR's mission is succinctly stated in its motto: “Keeping Huntley Informed and Connected”.  In support of HCR's mission, no other communications medium that serves the Huntley community can provide community alerts, announcements, and information of general interest to all segments of the Huntley area community in as timely a manner as HCR can.  HCR has the unique capability of communicating and interacting with its Huntley area listening community several hours each day of the year.  This form of communication and the station's intent to interact with its listeners via call-ins during on-air broadcasts inherently brings the community together with shared knowledge and insight.

Community organizations will be able to better inform and connect with all Huntley residents and those who directly serve our community.  These community organizations include the Huntley village government; the police and fire departments; School District 158; the Library and Park Districts; the numerous community service organizations; and businesses represented by the Huntley Chamber of Commerce.

  • I’ve heard that HCR is run by and for Sun City residents.  Is that true?

When the concept for this low-power FM station was initially conceived about four years ago, this statement was true; however, it’s untrue today.  The mission, scope, operation, and community involvement now focuses on the needs and interests of the entire Huntley community.

  • What types of programs will be broadcast?

HCR regular daytime programming will consist of local news, sports, weather; call-in programs focusing on community development and services; education; health; recreation; civic activities and events; and business development and interests.  In addition, to in-studio programs, remote broadcasts will be a frequent part of HCR's programming schedule, including live and recorded coverage of events occurring within Huntley, including student concerts, sporting events, village meetings, and special events that may happen periodically and on a one-time basis.

  • How many hours will HCR be on the air each day?

HCR intends to broadcast 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.  Most of the day's live and original programming will occur from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; selected programs that were broadcast earlier in the day will be repeated from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.; and varying genre of music will be broadcast from 12 to 6 a.m.
