Huntley Library's Summer Programs a Big Hit

Library sees bigger numbers for this year's programs, particularly among children. More special events are planned but make sure your family registers.

Huntley Library’s summer reading programs are drawing in a record number of children who are in for more treats with some special events in the next few weeks.

Since Huntley Library started its REALLY BIG Summer Reading Extravaganza two weeks ago, 2,355 children have signed up, said Leigh Ann Porsch, communications/development coordinator.

“It just keeps growing and growing,” Porsch said. “It’s amazing.”

“It’s harder to engage the teens who are busy with sports r have jobs or other responsibilities,” she said. But “the kids’ program is just amazing. We’ve really tried to have a solid theme and it gets the kids excited.”

“We really wrap some very interesting and fun programming and the kids really look forward to doing this,” Porsch said.

In addition to the weekly prize drawings, prizes and a final grand prizes, the library is holding special events throughout the summer.

A big hit was Friday’s Traveling World of Reptiles at the Cosman Cultural Center. About 200 tickets were distributed for the show, which featured creatures like Chiquita a boa constrictor.
