Heat Index Could Reach 105 on Friday

The heat and humidity is expected to cool late Friday.

The National Weather Service is warning residents to expect continued high temperatures, with hot and humid weather persisting through Friday.

Highs will be in the lower 90s in Huntley on Wednesday and Thursday, with heat index values near 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday could be the hottest day with highs in the mid-90s in some areas and heat index values of 100 to 105 degrees.

Relief could come late Friday as a cold front approaches, bringing with it the possibility of showers and thunderstorms, according to the NWS.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers these tips on how to stay safe in the heat:

  • Drink more fluids, specifically those that don't contain alcohol or large amounts of sugar.
  • Stay indoors, in an air-conditioned place, if possible.
  • Take a cool shower or bath.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.
  • Limit your outdoor activity to morning and evening hours, and cut down on exercise, if possible.
