District 158 Middle School Summer Band Camp Earns Most Outstanding Band

Band wins accolade at Crystal Lake's Fourth of July Parade.

Despite the humidity and high temperatures during Crystal Lake's annual Fourth of July Parade, students from District 158’s Middle School Summer Band Camp marched away with the trophy for the "Most Outstanding Band."

“As far as I could tell, it seemed like there were about seven other bands there, and they were all adult bands!,” Band Director Jennifer Charles said, about the July 1 parade.

“That’s right, a bunch of middle-schoolers from Huntley, Illinois, stomped out all of the competition," she said. "Clearly, I am very proud!”

The Summer Camp Band consisting of more than 90 students in grades 6-8 from both Marlowe and Heineman Middle Schools, began in mid June and will conclude with a concert from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14 at Heineman Middle School, 725 Academic Drive, Algonquin.
