Park District holding annual campout at Deicke Park

Families can enjoy a campout next weekend, without ever having to leave town.

With tents in tow, guests can arrive Friday night, September 7, for campout fun and sleeping under the stars, and stay until Saturday morning, September 8.

Families have had so much fun in the past at the event that many make it an annual tradition. But newcomers are also always welcome to join in on the fun.

“With this event going on its 11th season, it has really become a Huntley staple event,” said David Genty, Huntley Park District Recreation Supervisor of Special Events and Marketing.

“The family campout is a great family event that really gives the opportunity for families to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors without even having to leave town,” he said.

In addition to spending the night in your tent in Deicke Park, the campout is filled with many more activities.

There will be hayrides that night, along with a campfire complete with s’mores. JC’s Guitars will be providing the outdoor adventurers with some campfire music.

They’ll also have night hikes, stories and crafts.

General RV will be bringing a couple of RV’s over for people to see, too.

The next morning, the Huntley Rotary Club will prepare a pancake breakfast for all of the participants.

“We’ve got a great lineup of activities for everyone,” Genty said.

“We make sure your experience is one that the whole family never forgets.”

The cost of the event is $15 per campsite/$4 per person if you pre-register, or $20 per campsite/$6 per person if you register onsite.

That night, check in will run from 5 to 6 p.m.

Hayrides will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

From 7:30 to 10 p.m., there will be a night hike around Deicke Park, the campfire, s’mores, stories and live music.

Quiet hours begin at 10 p.m.

The breakfast, which will be held inside of the Rec Center cafeteria, will run from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The campsites must be cleared by 11 a.m.

All campers must supply their own tents and sleeping bags.
