Prep Sports Notebook

A look at the regional assignments for the local teams and this week's biggest games.

The Illinois High School Association announced on Friday that regional and sectional assignments for the fall sports season. The dates and times for games will be announced in a few weeks. Here is where the local teams will go for each sport:

Volleyball: Dundee-Crown, Jacobs and Huntley are all together in the four-team Class 4A Dundee-Crown Regional along with Barrington. Based on standings so far, you would believe Huntley will be the top seed. The winner goes to the Prairie Ridge Sectional.

Boys Soccer: The three local teams are once again bunched together here at the Class 3A Jacobs Regional along with Crystal Lake South in a regional full of Fox Valley Conference teams. Huntley and Jacobs could vie for the top seed in this regional. The winner goes to the Barrington Sectional.

Girls Tennis: All three locals head to the Elgin Sectional where they will compete with the 10-team sectional. Keep an eye on Jacobs doubles team of Marcilyn Rowan and Lauren Steinkamp here. Rowan and Steinkamp have a solid chance to advance to state.

Boys Golf: Jacobs and Dundee-Crown will play at the Class 3A Barrington Regional while Huntley goes to the Harlem Regional in Machesney Park. Red Raiders freshman Trent Craig has been very solid all season and could surprise in regional play. If any team or golfer advances, they would go to the Fremd Sectional in Palatine.

Girls Golf: Jacobs and Dundee-Crown will be at the Class AA Prairie Ridge Regional while Huntley heads to Belvidere North. Any winning teams or players will go the Buffalo Grove Sectional.

Cross Country: All three local teams will run at the Rockford Guilford Regional with winners going to the Wheaton North Sectional. Huntley’s Kelly Meelheib has been leading the area on the girls’ side all season long and has a strong chance to getting all the way to the state meet.

Girls Swimming: The local teams are all spread out for regionals with Jacobs and Huntley at St. Charles East while Dundee-Crown will be at Barrington. The Golden Eagles are coming off a win on Saturday in the Woodstock Invitational.

Thursday

Boys Soccer

Crystal Lake South at Huntley, 4:30 p.m.: A FVC Valley Division showdown between two teams that could see each other during regional time.

Friday

Football

Cary-Grove at Jacobs, 7:15 p.m.: The undefeated Golden Eagles face their toughest test to date with a visit from the Trojans in FVC Valley play during Homecoming week at Jacobs.

Huntley at Dundee-Crown, 7:15 p.m.: The Red Raiders and Chargers get together on D-C’s homecoming for one team’s first win of the season as both teams come in at 0-4.

Saturday

Boys Golf

Genoa-Kingston Invitational, 8 a.m.: The Red Raiders head west to play in one of the most unique tournaments of the season played with the Stableford point system.

Girls Swimming

Buffalo Grove Invitational, 11:30 a.m.: The three local girls swim teams head to the northwest suburbs to compete.

Tuesday, Sept. 27

Volleyball

Dundee-Crown at Jacobs, 6:30 p.m.: The D-300 rivals face off in Fox Valley Conference play.
