Games to watch for this week along with some notes on the local teams.

As we past the Labor Day holiday, here is what is going on with our local teams.

Strong Showing: On Saturday, the Jacobs volleyball team showed that there is some potential for this season, finishing fourth at its own invitational in Algonquin. The Golden Eagles swept through pool play which included a win over Crystal Lake Central before losing to Cary-Grove in the semifinals. Cary is going to be a roadblock for a lot of teams in the Fox Valley Conference this season but getting any chance to see them additional times may allow a chance for victory later in the year.

On the Field: Saturday’s weather didn’t allow things to get too involved but Huntley’s boys’ soccer team notched a 2-2 tie against Marian Central at the Wauconda Tournament as Christian Ramos and Lucas Baker each had goals as the Red Raiders finished the weekend with a 3-1-2 record. Like in volleyball, Cary-Grove has established themselves as the early favorite. The teams will meet on Sept. 29 in Cary.

Backfield Motion: One week it is Caz Zyks for Jacobs, this week it was Kyle Wright doing the damage for Jacobs. For Dundee-Crown, it was Ardian Asani doing the running in Week 1 and this week it was Cody Lane. It looks like it may be a new running back hero each week for these teams as the 2011 season hits the 1/3 point this weekend.
