Huntley Boys Track Team Stands Out at Sectionals

Huntley High School placed second overall at the home sectional meet on Friday, May 17.

Several local boys track and field athletes will be headed to the state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston this Thursday through Saturday. 

The Huntley High School boys track team placed second overall with 56 points at the Huntley boys sectional track and field meet on Friday, May 17. Grant Community High School came in first place with 83 points, according to preliminary results posted on the IHSA website. Crystal Lake Central placed fifth overall with 49 points.

The Huntley relay teams performed well capturing sectional titles — and qualifying for state — in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay and also qualifying for state in the 4x800-meter relay. 

Here is a full list of those who qualified for the upcoming state meet:

  • Craig Lambert, senior, placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 13-03.00
  • Justin Herbert, senior, placed third in the discuss throw with a mark of 166-04.00
  • The 4x800-meter relay placed seventh with a time of 7:58.45. The team is made up of Trevor Obecny, Sam Marcuccelli, Keagan Smith and Brendan O'Donnell. 
  • The 4x100-meter relay placed first with a time of 42.74 seconds. The team is made up of Ryan Tharp, Tyler Schwartz, Connor Boos and Mike Dollar
  • The 4x200-meter relay placed first with a time of 1:29.66. The team is made up of John Walker, Tyler Schwartz, Connor Boos and Mike Dollar
