Barrington Ends Huntley's Soccer Season

The Red Raiders fall for the third year in a row in the postseason to Barrington with 1-0 loss in sectional semifinal

The past two seasons have seen Huntley’s girls’ soccer team losing to Barrington in the postseason to end their run towards a state championship.

On Tuesday, the Red Raiders got a third chance at the Fillies in the Class 3A Jacobs Sectional semifinal in Algonquin. The Huntley offense could never fully get going and Barrington’s Catie Curran scored with 30 minutes to play as the Red Raiders were upset 1-0. Huntley (19-2-1) could manage just five shots in the game including none in the first 30 minutes of the second half as the season came to a close yet again due to Barrington. Huntley coach Kris Grabner said that things went back to a way he thought was in the past.

“The work rate was there but from a soccer standpoint, we kind of resorted way back to the beginning of the season,” Grabner said. “We didn’t possess the ball like we needed to and we didn‘t win the ball in the air like we needed to throughout the whole thing.”

Grabner added that it would have been nice to finally beat Barrington.

“It’s frustrating that we don’t get by Barrington,” Grabner said. “A lot of people say that (this game) shouldn’t happen before the sectional final but you got to beat them one time or another. I thought they played a great game and their goal I thought was well-struck. If we defended that better, we’re still 0-0 and in the game.”
