McHenry County High Schools Makes Best Schools List

U.S. News & World Reports released its high school rankings this week.

While Huntley High School did not make this year's U.S. News & World Report's best high schools list, three other McHenry County high schools did. 

Cary-Grove High School ranked 50th in the state while Richmond-Burton High School was ranked as the 53rd best school in Illinois and Marengo High School came in as the 61st best high school in the state, according to the rankings, which were released Tuesday.

U.S. News analyzes data from the 2010-2011 school year from more than 21,000 schools located in 49 states and the District of Columbia to determine the rankings.

All of the McHenry County schools ranked above the Illinois average on math and reading proficiency while Richmond-Burton and Cary-Grove also ranked above average for college readiness, according to the rankings. The rankings base college readiness scores on the percent of 12th graders in a school that took Advanced Placement tests and passed those tests. 

The top eight best high schools in Illinois, in addition to their national rankings, are listed below:

The rankings were achieved in conjunction with the American Institutes for Research (AIR), which according to the U.S. News website, is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world.
