The class, AVF 101 Primary Flight Theory, will be taught at Blue Skies Flying Services at the Lake in the Hills Airport on Mondays and Wednesdays, September 4 – December 16, from 6 – 8:00p.m. There will be an Information Session for prospective students and interested residents on Monday, August 12 from 6 – 8:00p.m., at Blue Skies Flying Services, Inc. 8411 Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills.

AVF 101 Primary Flight Theory is a four-credit hour course that addresses the requirements for the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test as well as laying the foundation for a career in aviation.

The college credits earned in this course can be applied toward a number of degrees and certificates and are transferrable to several four-year aviation programs at institutions across the country, including Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Lewis University, and Southern Illinois University.

At the free information session on Monday, August 12, participants will learn more about the AVF 101 course and the steps required to enroll from Kishwaukee College aviation instructor, Steve Durin.

Since the area’s local community college, McHenry County College, does not offer an aviation program, a cooperative agreement is available to ensure students receive the Kishwaukee College in-district tuition rate. Requirements, career opportunities, costs, and financial aid will be discussed at the information session.

Matt Feuerborn, Associate Dean of Career Technologies at Kishwaukee College, stated, “Kishwaukee College was attracted to the area by the resources, and rich aviation community available at the Lake in the Hills Airport and the unique capabilities of Blue Skies Flying Services. In meetings with representatives of the Lake in the Hills administration, it is apparent

that they are very pro-growth in utilizing the resources at their disposal to provide the community and the College with a supportive environment. We are excited to be partnering with Lake in the Hills and Blue Skies to make this aviation course available for area residents.”
