Veterans Day Closures, Programs

Village offices closed, local schools open.

Americans will honor those who served in the military Friday on Veterans Day.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports there were 21.8 million members of military veterans in the U.S. in 2010.

There were 9 million veterans aged 65 and older last year, according to Census data. There were 1.7 million younger than age 35, the bureau reported.

Veterans Day honors all those veterans and those who’ve died for their country.

It is a national holiday and many government offices will be closed, including the village of Huntley’s offices. There will be no mail delivery.

There is school in Consolidated District 158, however, other school districts do not have school.

Locally, McHenry County College will hold a Veterans Day Recognition program at 9 a.m. Friday.

The program features the MCC Chorus and MCC Concert Band as well as speakers Vaughn Heidenreich, a World War II Air Force veteran and Sharon Slover, director of Education and Careers with the Special Education District of McHenry County (SEDOM).
