Two Applications, Lots of Figures

Centegra Health System's and Mercy Health System's Certificate of Need applications by the numbers.

If you glance at the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Certificate of Need application Centegra Health Center and Mercy Health Center each submitted, there are lots of numbers that jump out.

From bed space to the distance between each proposed hospital and existing hospitals, the information is dense. A few of facts, by the numbers:

-Centegra Health System’s Huntley project would cost $233 million.

-Mercy’s plan would cost $200 million

-A Huntley hospital would create 800 construction jobs and more than 1,000 health care jobs, according to the hospital.

-A Crystal Lake hospital would create 800 construction jobs and 850 full-time jobs, according to Mercy.

-Each hospital would have 128 beds, 100 of those general medical/surgical beds with the remaining beds for obstetrics and intensive care.

-Centegra would build a 360,000 square-foot facility

-Mercy would build a 353,000 square-foot facility

-Huntley’s population is expected to grow 12 percent between 2010-2015 while Lake in the Hills and Algonquin are expected to grow between 10.6 percent, according to Centegra’s CON application.

-The populations of Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, Cary and Algonquin (which a Mercy Crystal Lake hospital would serve) grew by 20,000 since 2000, according to Census figures.

-A Crystal Lake hospital at Three Oaks Road would be 6.2 miles away from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, or about 12.7 minutes.

-A Centegra-Huntley hospital would be 20 minutes away from Sherman Hospital in Elgin while Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is 28 minutes.
