Survey Finds Huntley Has High Quality of Life

The survey says: A majority of Huntley residents rate the quality of life above average or higher.

That’s among the results of the conducted to gauge residents’ opinions on everything from quality of life to safety to the importance of revitalizing downtown.

More than 900 people responded to the survey, up 59.3 percent from last year, Village Manager Dave Johnson said. A majority of those responding live in Sun City Huntley, the survey results show.

What is important to respondents?

The survey showed resident listed attracting retailers along Route 47 and attracting jobs as important.

Johnson wasn’t surprised that Huntley residents want to see more economic development — it’s something Huntley officials want to see too. He said it is important for the village to have more opportunities for shopping that will help keep tax dollars in the town.

Also rated as a high importance: getting a full interchange at Route 47 and Interstate 90. Johnson said the village is making progress on that project.

Events important

The survey shows 88 percent rated having community events as important to most important.

Huntley village staff will talk about continuing to do its annual events, like the farmers market, and partnering with community groups to develop new events, Johnson said.

 “It’s always a challenge in these economic times to invest in these things (community events), but we understand the important of this to our community,” Johnson said.

The results, by the numbers:

• 66.1 percent rated the quality of life above average or higher.
• 89.3 percent generally were satisfied to most satisfied with governance by mayor/village board.
• 80.9 percent feel safe or most safe.
• 88 percent rated the importance of community events high.
• 70 percent rated the village’s appearance as average and above average.
