Snowflake Festival Goes On!

Small amount snow - perfect timing for Snowflake Festival.

The lack of winter-like temperatures and conditions won’t keep the winter fun from happening at the Huntley Park District’s upcoming Snowflake Festival.

The second annual festival takes place from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, at Deicke Park, the Park District Rec Center and the Rec Center’s south parking lot.

There will be even more activities and fun than last year, said David Genty, recreation supervisor of special events and marketing for the Huntley Park District.

“This event encompasses the winter months and really helps to embrace them,” Genty said.

“And although this season has been unseasonably warm with very little snow compared to last year’s blizzard, we still have plenty of winter-themed activities lined up for this great family event. We have a lot of great sponsors who have come on board to help this event be a success.”

Snowflake Festival Activities

Some of the activities planned for the festival include snowflake face-painting, horse-drawn wagon rides, winter themed carnival games, hockey demonstrations sponsored by the Yellowjackets Hockey team and a mechanical reindeer.

Activities for the Snowflake Festival are scheduled for both indoors and outdoors.

However, some planned events, such as sledding, snowman building and ice-skating are dependent upon the weather, Genty said.

There are many more, though, that don’t require snow or cold.

“But if we could get everyone to collectively hope for snow, that would make the event even more fun,” Genty said.

Get Out and Enjoy The Fun

Either way though, the event should provide a nice break from the winter doldrums.

“This event really just brings people out of their house and gives them something different during the winter months,” Genty said.

“A lot of people dread the cold and winter months but we want to make people aware that there are always activities to do during this time of the year. You just have to be creative and embrace the seasons.”

The activities vary in cost, and in the number of tickets required. However, tickets are 25 cents each.

There also will be tickets raffled off for the Chicago Express, Chicago Wolves and a grand prize of Chicago Blackhawks tickets.
