Next Engineering Phase for Kreutzer Road Gets Approval

Huntley village board takes other actions at this week's meeting.

Work on phase II engineering plans for Kreutzer Road, which is an important element in Huntley’s transportation plans, will be moving forward in the next few weeks.

“We’d like to be done with phase II by the end of this year and stay on track for construction by 2012,” Village Manager Dave Johnson said.

Plans call for extending Kreutzer Road to the west of Route 47. The board is expected to authorize an agreement with Civiltech Engineering, based in Itasca, next week.

“We look at it (Kreutzer Road) as a bypass to Route 47 and Main Street,” Johnson said. The extension should help “alleviate traffic in the area by moving some of it onto Kreutzer Road, he added.

Huntley has received $1.5 million from the McHenry Council of Mayors for the $6 million project. Civiltech Engineering is handling the project.

Huntley Officials Asking Kane County to Consider Supporting Centegra

Johnson and several trustees will attend the March 8 Kane County board meeting hoping to give their pitch for the proposed Centegra-Huntley Hospital. Centegra Health System is vying against Mercy Health System to gain approval for the multi-million hospital in Huntley from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.

Village President Charles Sass said the Kane County board is leaning toward opposing the Huntley hospital. McHenry County officials have endorsed both Centegra’s and Mercy’s plans.

“Our feeling on it is there are 5,800 (homes and more than 9,000 residents) who live in Sun City and Kane County who would benefit from” the Centegra-Huntley hospital, Johnson said. “We want to make sure Kane County representatives understand the importance of (the proposal) to our community.”

What weight endorsements from county officials would have on each hospital’s application is unknown, Johnson said Thursday. However, Huntley is looking to get as much support as possible for Centegra’s project.

Even if Kane County doesn’t support a hospital in Huntley, Johnson hopes the board would remain neutral and not make any proclamations opposing the project.

Huntley Funding Grafton Township Senior Rides

The village plans to contribute $10,000 toward Grafton Township’s Senior Transportation Program through an intergovernmental agreement for the year.

The transportation program serves the elderly living in Grafton and Rutland townships. Last year, ridership increased slightly from 1,310 in 2009 to 1,373 in Rutland. Overall ridership decreased from 3,424 in 2009 to 3,337 in 2010, according to the village. The decrease meant a dip in revenues from $4,663 to $4,141 last year, officials said.

Two New Zoning Board of Appeals Members

Rhonda Goldman and Lori Nichols will join the village’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

Goldman is a resident of Sun City Huntley and has been involving in community events such as parades, bike rodeos and National Night Out. She is also a graduate of the Huntley Citizens Police Academy, officials said.

Nichols is a resident of the Talamore Subdivision and has worked in the commercial insurance field for 20 years. She is currently the vice president of the Huntley Jaycees and chairperson for the 2012 Fall Fest.
