New Speed Limits on Charles Miller, River Roads During Construction Now in Effect

Speed limit is now 35 miles per hour and minimum fines are $375.

Motorists beware: there’s a new construction speed limit on Charles Miller and River Roads.

The speed limit is 35 miles per hour along Charles Miller Road between Green Street and River Road and along River Road between Emerald Court and Black Partridge Avenue.   The minimum fine for violation of the construction speed limit will be $375.  It is expected the speed zone will remain in effect until project completion scheduled for the fall of 2013.

Speeding, impatience, and driver inattention are the leading factors in work zone crashes.   Drivers should slow down and stay alert in work zones for their own safety as well as the safety of construction workers.  Road construction zones require greater driver caution due to features such as narrow lanes, lane shifts, reduced shoulder width, obstructions and drop-offs.  Over 90 percent of Illinois’ traffic related work zone fatalities are motorists.

The Charles Miller Road Improvement Project is scheduled to be substantially complete in the fall of 2013, and will widen and reconstruct Charles J. Miller Road from Green Street to River Road and River Road from Emerald Court and Black Partridge Avenue.  The project will also include the construction of a new two-lane bridge over the Fox River to supplement the existing bridge.
