New Disc Golf Course Slated for Lake in the Hills

The Lake in the Hills Village Board will vote tonight on a site plan for a proposed disc golf course.

A new disc golf course for the area could be opening soon.

The Lake in the Hills Village Board is slated Thursday to approve a site plan for a disc golf course proposed to be installed on the village’s western edge.

The nine-hole disc golf course would be at Linda K. Fischer Park, 5962 Grafton Farm Drive, and would have a length of 2,580 feet. The disc golf course would be comparable in size to other area disc golf courses, such as the course at Randall Oaks in West Dundee.

The Lake in the Hills Rotary Club, which hopes to open the course over Memorial Day weekend, would fund the disc golf course, said Village Administrator Gerald Sagona.

"For 15 years, we have been talking about doing this," said Sagona who is also a Lake in the Hills Rotary Club member.

He said the Rotary Club decided to use money raised from its annual Rockin' Ribfest to fund the golf course, because it felt the addition "would leave a lasting impression on the village."

Disc golf is played with heavier Frisbee-like discs; golfers aim for baskets or targets instead of holes. Like golf, the players aspire to make the fewest throws per basket.

The proposed site plan is meant to use open space at Linda K. Fischer Park, Parks & Recreation Director Trudy Wakeman told the Village Board during Tuesday's Committee of a Whole meeting.

The disc golf course is part of a master plan for the park, a former dairy farm on the western edge of Lake in the Hills.

The site plan consists of a nine-hole course consisting of par 4 and par 3 holes. The course winds through trees and bushes, Wakeman said.

The Board of Trustees will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate.
