Kreutzer Road Expansion Public Hearing Planned

Residents will be able to give their opinion on the project.

Huntley residents will get a chance to give their opinions on the Kreutzer Road expansion at a hearing tentatively scheduled for next month.

Plans call for expanding Kreutzer Road about a quarter mile west of Route 47 and linking the road to Main Street, said engineers with Civiltech Engineering Inc., the firm heading the project. The Batavia firm gave the an update last week.

The first phase of the project, gathering documentations and agreements from different agencies, is under way and the next step would be a public hearing, said Joel Christell, of Civiltech Engineering.

An open house is planned where the public can view plans, maps and get information on the project, he said.

Feedback will be taken and reviewed, Christell said.

A report will be presented to the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, both partners in the project, he said.

Gary Overbay, principal of Civiltech Engineering Inc., said while the first phase is being done, his firm is working on the design plan. The firm hopes to have those plans approved by March 2012. However, actual construction may not begin until 2013 or 2014.

Trustee Pam Fender went on record with her desire to change the name of the new road. She said she is “totally against” keeping the same name for the new road because it could cause confusion in the village.

Mayor Charles Sass and Trustee Harry Leopold disagreed.

The new Kreutzer Road would include one lane in each direction and a bike/walking path. Leopold said he would like to see the path linked to Sun City Huntley and recommended the village explore the idea with Sun City’s home association.

A bridge would go over the south branch of the Kishwaukee River.
