Huntley's Electric Aggregation Referendum Wins Approval

Kane and McHenry county voters pass referendum.

 

An electric aggregation referendum won approval from voters in Kane and McHenry Counties, according to unofficial election results.

The measure grants Huntley authority to bundle — or aggregate — residential and small retail electric accounts together to buy electricity at a group rate. The village will establish an opt-out program for those who do not want to particpate.

In the Kane County portion of Huntley, the measure was passed with a total of 1,030 yes votes, or 61.49 percent, compared to 559 no votes, or 33.35 percent, with all precincts reporting, according to the Kane County Clerk's office website.

In the McHenry County portion of Huntley, the measure was passing with a total of 1,195 yes votes, or 58.84 percent, compared to 836 no votes, or 41.16 percent, with 12 out of 12 precincts reporting.

Huntley officials will now start the process of establishing the opt-out program and will hold a public hearing later on the subject.
