Huntley Holds Information Open House on Electric Aggregation Program

Voters will get answers to any questions about the proposed program.

Huntley is holding an information open house to help answer any questions voters have about a referendum question on an electric aggregation program.

The open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at the municipal complex, 10987 Main Street. Voters will learn the basic concept around electric aggregation, the steps involved if the referendum passes on March 20 and the options residents have to either participate in a lower electric supply rate program or opt out, officials said.

The referendum question is asking voters if they would like the Village to try to negotiate lower electric supply rates on their behalf.  If the referendum passes and a supplier is found to have substantially lower rates each resident and eligible small commercial retail customer will have the opportunity to either join the program or opt out and stay with their existing supply provider, according to the village’s website.

In all cases, ComEd will continue to service each address and distribute a single monthly invoice for electricity, the site states.

Neither village staff nor trustees can campaign for the referendum but the village can provide information for voters. The village's website also has a list of frequently asked questions.
